THE beloved Cubby House at the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre has has grown up somehwat– say hello to the Family Support Hub.

The space has been reworked into a family friendly support hub, complete with a ping pong table, dress ups and board games.

PDNC manager Siobhan Delgado said while the closure of the Cubby House was devastating this next stage will play to the needs of all families in Port Douglas.

“The space belongs to the community and we won’t take it away from the community,” she said.

“We looked for what we thought the community might need and a space for families at all ages and stages seemed ideal.”

The hub now hosts a youth program for kids between grade seven and grade 12 to help with the development of life skills and provide a safe place to “hang out and chat”.

“At the moment it is still trial and error to see what the youth in Port Douglas actually want,” said Mrs Delgado.

“We have funding for six months and if we get a positive response then we will apply for further funding.”

To get the ball rolling PDNC are hosting a disco at the Douglas Shire Hall on Friday, May 27, for 12-17 year olds.
