Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - THE GROOVE -

A comment I made in relation to an incident involving Teachers from Aurukun Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy, was not a reflection of my position. Let me be clear: Violence is never ok. I have spoken with the Aurukun Mayor, Senior Queensland Police, and the Queensland Teachers Union and with a number of community leaders in the

Cape to make my position clear, that I condemn this violence.

I have reiterated to the Premier and the Education Minister that their actions in removing the teachers from the Aurukun environment were absolutely justified.

Yet without real action to address the fundamental social and economic challenges at the heart of dysfunctional behaviour, nothing is likely change.
