Three step up for regionals
THEY shoot, they score!
Three boys from the Douglas Shire are heading down south on June 2 to make their shire proud.
Toby Hull, 11, Regan Crees, 12, and Tyson Crees, 10, were hand-picked from the region’s finest 12 and under basketball players to represent the Cairns area in Mackay at the state championships.
It’s just the next stop on an already exciting tour for the boys who were picked at the Peninsula trials in Cairns when they represented the Douglas Shire and won six of their six games, taking out the championship.
Their win at the Peninsula games was a first for a Douglas cluster team.
From there the boys were chosen to be in the Peninsula team with seven other talented players in the region the Cardwell to Torres Strait Island.
Douglas Heat coach Steve Hull, father of Toby Hull, said all three boys were talented and ready to take on the challenge.
“If the boys play well at the state championships they will be off to the nationals,” he said.
“It was a great effort from the boys from the Douglas Shire to get picked to represent the region in Mackay.”
The boys will be joined by their families in Mackay who will be offering sideline support for the Douglas three.
