Walking safely is the lesson

ST Augustine’s students and parents participated as a community in the annual Walk Safely to School Day last Friday.

Members of the school community assembled at various meeting points around Mossman and at 8.10am started on a mass walk to the school.

The purpose was for the school community to consider its transport habits and safety, while trying to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around.

“Obviously walking all the way to school is not realistic for all students, but it is quite easy to work out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine,” a school spokesperson said.

“Walk Safely to School Day is all about promoting a healthier lifestyle: and regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them, but of course you beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes.”

On arrival at school all walkers were provided with a nutritional plate of seasonal fruit see them into a great start for the day.
