Why I love coming to Port Douglas
AS Carlotta I have been entertaining around Australia for the last 50 years. I was first invited to perform my show three years ago in Port Douglas at the Clink Theatre.
How unique it is. An old courthouse that was turned into a theatre, at first I wondered why they were making me perform in that rundown little scout hall. But I have grown to cherish that little theatre and the audiences in their gorgeous little Target outfits.
What can I say? Australians and overseas visitors to our shores – Port Douglas, WOW. Untouched, unique, and best of all it doesn’t look like those money making vultures have yet destroyed a beautiful, true Australian tourist Mecca.
This year started with visiting the amazing Wonderland Spiegeltent, and what a fantastic addition to Carnivale. Refreshing drinks and a funny little leprechaun wearing a cowboy hat – a great way start to the weekend.
The Longest Lunch was the following day. After last year being thrown around in the back of a stretch Hummer, I was relieved to have a sensible walk across the road from the lovely Club Tropical Resort where I stayed.
It was wonderful to get up and say hello to many old acquaintances that I have met over the years. I do hope next year they realise the heater was still set for Melbourne weather.
Thank god mummy got rid of the silicone years ago, she would have melted otherwise. Perhaps next year we might see the palm trees again and enjoy the wind in our hair.
Thankfully I was part of the Street Parade again this year. How much it has grown! How excited the locals were and the tourists in awe of it all.
I must say I have never experienced a ride like Shaun gave me, though I don’t think he knew if I was Arthur or Martha when I arrived.
The fabulous S & S Trikes – do yourself a favour, the boys are lovely polite and not to mention pleasant on the eyes.
I was then blown away with the amazing fireworks display... who needs Sydney. What a show you provided from the luxury of my cinematic covered balcony away from that horrid rain that came to dampen other events over the weekend.
My god Port Douglas you are unique and unchanged! I love it that small businesses have the chance to thrive still. Thank you once again for my invite. I hope I’ll always be back.
Congratulations on a wonderful Carnivale.
Love to you all.
