Evan’s a stand-up fellow
STAND-UP comedy is always popular here but never more so than when a former local returns to Port Douglas to present his new show.
Evan Hocking, past Crocs player and pool cleaner in Port Douglas, has recently made comedy his full time career and is pleased to come back to present his show in his old stomping ground.
“My show is called Evan is a Place on Earth and I talk about life events like marriage, having kids and I also have some material from four years living in Port Douglas,” Evan said.
Evan, who now lives in Melbourne, said that his girlfriend is studying medicine and he uses some of her stories in his show.
“She is one of my harshest critics but she knows that laughter is the best medicine.
Evan was installing fire protection systems in Melbourne prior to him going full time at his craft but he said he definitely doesn’t miss it.
“I really enjoy working at nights, making people laugh.”
Evan’s gigs take him all over Melbourne and into the country regions, performing at sports and community clubs.
“When I was in Port, there wasn’t too much comedy and I did a few gigs at the Crocs Football Club and it proved a good step up for me in the world of comedy,” he said.
“If you come to the show, you’ll have a few laughs and a good night out.”
Mr Michael Kerr, manager of The Clink said that Evan has already got a local following because of his time up here.
“Evan said he is excited about coming up here and presenting his show to friends and other locals,” Michael said.
“We have some other great acts coming up at The Clink,” he said, “particularly Michael Griffiths who has won a Helpmann Award for this show Cole.”
“Michael Griffiths will bring this fabulous show to The Clink in October.”
Evan is a Place on Earth is on at The Clink Theatre on August 12.
