Port Douglas caravan parks turn to turf warfare
A new golf challenge kicked off at the Mirage Country Club last Friday.
It was the inaugural Glengarry Challenge, pitting the Mowbray caravan park against Tropic Breeze’s squad of golfers.
It was the brainchild of Glengarry visitor Louise Cole, of NSW, a fairly recent newcomer to the sport who says it has really gotten under her skin.
“It started because we had a few golfers and I thought ‘well, why don’t we start a little competition’?
“I approached the owners – Margy and Max Brady – who are lovely people and they said they’d donate this and that, and then I went around and saw quite a few different people to get this off the ground.’
A friend who is staying at Tropic Breeze lined up some golfers to make up their team, and altogether 35 people turned up for the challenge day.
“They already want to do it again next year,” said Louise.
“I want to thank all the kind sponsors who didn’t know me at all yet they very generously gave and supported this event.
