The influenza A outbreak at Mossman Hospital was declared over at 8am on Friday August 5. A spokesman said Mossman Hospital was now operating as normal. “No services were affected during the outbreak of influenza A.” 26 staff displayed flu-like symptoms during the outbreak. According to the spokesman most of the 26 staff have now returned to work, and the seven patients that were confirmed as having influenza A are all “recovering well.” “All patients and staff with flu-like symptoms were given antiviral medications. Preventive antiviral medications were also issued to well patients and staff. “In line with standard procedures in managing communicable disease outbreaks, the hospital took precautions to prevent the further spread of the virus, including patient isolation, good personal hygiene, limiting visitors, restricting new admissions, and excluding unwell staff from coming to work.
