Drawing inspiration from everything for art

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - REAL ESTATE - Scott Tibballs

AFTER showing artistic talent through drawings and rough sketches over the years, all it took was a gentle nudge from her family for local woman Glenda Gordon to dive into art.

“It was something I wanted to pursue since I was in primary school,” she said.

“I draw inspiration from everything around me – colours, patterns and nature.”

Not just a painter but a photographer too, Glenda takes photos of flowers and landscapes before using those images as a starting point for her next work.

One of her pieces, a botanical artwork won champion artwork at the Mossman Show recently – which is not an easy feat.

“Botanical images are very precise.”

While Glenda is skilled in photography, acrylics and watercolours she says she is working hard to improve her watercolour pieces.

For any work regardless of whether it be a botanical piece of a landscape, Glenda says the hardest part is deciding what to do next.

“But my favourite part is seeing all the colours come together.”

With years of painting behind her, Glenda could fill the Douglas Arts Base Gallery with her work.

For now, she is the inaugural feature wall artist of the month – a new series of different local artists showcasing their work.

Her work is on show at the DAB in Mossman.
