First mack makes big impression

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT - Geoff Ogg

THE best fish I ever caught was yesterday.

It was a 48cm mackerel, right here at the Sugar Wharf.

It’s the first fish I’ve caught for many years, so it was good to get that feeling again. It put up a good fight too.

It was about 10am, and that catch happened in the first hour. I had no idea what it was – my son identified it.

I’m up here on holiday from Lithgow, near Sydney.

We do various trout fishing where I am in the Blue Mountains and beyond but I don’t get the time when I’m at home, unfortunately.

My son lives up here and I’m using his rod and a hired rod – most of the fish I’ve caught have been on the hired rod! So good on the local rods. I’ve also been catching a lot of bream this morning, about eight. Great little fish.

It’s been great fishing in this spot. We fished all day yesterday.

And you can’t beat the view.
