Precinct proposed for Port
A Live Entertainment Precinct in Port Douglas is one of the new additions to the planning scheme, with a large chunk of the town centre highlighted in the draft.
Running down Macrossan St from Muldo to Wharf St, the precinct would include the commercial centre of the town as well as the marina.
“The intent of the Live Entertainment Precinct is to formalise and preserve the Port Douglas CBD as a lively tourist destination that supports night-time entertainment,” said Mayor Julia Leu.
While the draft seeks to concentrate live entertainment within the precinct and make it “subject to the recommendations of a qualified acoustic engineer,” Ms Leu said establishing a precinct wouldn’t soak prevent live entertainment taking place in the rest of Port Douglas.
“The proposed Precinct provides Council with a mechanism to concentrate nighttime activity, including live music venues, into a defined precinct and discourage such activities from the quieter parts of town but there are no further live entertainment restrictions imposed on areas outside the proposed precinct.”
