Rainy harvest sets back the region’s mills
WET weather has hampered the Far Northern sugarcane harvest, with one mill losing 98 per cent of available crushing hours.
MSF’s Sugar’s South Johnstone factory processed just 513 tonnes of cane last week after copping 300mm of rain. That brought the mill’s season total to 445,977 tonnes.
The Tablelands Mill is halfway through its 800,000 tonne crop after crushing 36,000 tonnes last week.
Rain also affected the Mossman Mill, which processed 32, 192 tonnes.
The Mulgrave Mill lost 72 hours to rain but managed to crush 37,336 tonnes, breaking the 500,000-tonne mark.
