Rainy har­vest sets back the re­gion’s mills

WET weather has ham­pered the Far North­ern sug­ar­cane har­vest, with one mill los­ing 98 per cent of avail­able crush­ing hours.

MSF’s Su­gar’s South John­stone fac­tory pro­cessed just 513 tonnes of cane last week af­ter cop­ping 300mm of rain. That brought the mill’s sea­son to­tal to 445,977 tonnes.

The Table­lands Mill is half­way through its 800,000 tonne crop af­ter crush­ing 36,000 tonnes last week.

Rain also af­fected the Moss­man Mill, which pro­cessed 32, 192 tonnes.

The Mul­grave Mill lost 72 hours to rain but man­aged to crush 37,336 tonnes, break­ing the 500,000-tonne mark.
