Standing in a stream near village

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT - Sireli Ravairoro

I was born in Fiji and have lived in Cairns for the past six years.

Down there I fish a bit off the jetties and the sands, catching rays mainly, and puffers. They’re scary.

I fish up in Port now and then.

I think the fish I remember best was one I caught last year, back in the village in Fiji. It’s on the main island and a long way from the coast.

There are a lot of creeks and streams in the flatlands and we have water all around.

I was standing in a river and caught this silver coloured fish, I don’t know its name.

It wasn’t huge but it was the best fish I’ve ever caught. That was in freshwater of course.

There’s lots of fish in that river. The village eat a lot of fish. There are plenty of eels too.

I’ve been fishing since I was little but my brother fishes a lot more than I do. He’s really good.
