Sharks’ season wraps up

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

The Mossman Port Douglas Sharks A grade’s chance to play semi-final football in 2016 was dashed on Friday night when they were defeated by the in-form team of the competition, Ivanhoes.

Ivanhoes have not lost a game for a number of weeks and are strong contenders to take out the premiership this year.

The Sharks did not disappoint as they played well, keeping their opponents scoreless for almost 30 minutes.

They were in the game until close to the end where Ivanhoes ran in two quick tries to seal the win.

Injuries and the loss of key players to sickness did not help their cause but all 17 players gave their all in front of a very vocal band of supporters.

Even though the Sharks lost they were cheered off the ground in the last game of the season.

Changing coaches midseason was always going to be a tough ask but this has been their best season for many years ending up only one win away from the semis.

With the majority of the squad and coach James Doolah already committing to next year, 2017 will be even better for the mighty Sharks.

The Reserve grade team was only beaten by two points by the second placed Ivanhoes side but are starting to gel and will be strong next season. C grade finished on top of the ladder and will have a week’s rest before starting their finals campaign under player coach Gary Mackay.
