Crocs savage the Lions
Port Douglas post another thumping victory
THE Crocs played their final game at home against the Cairns City Lions in front of a healthy crowd starved of local AFL and a huge attendance of women for our Ladies Day.
The ladies tippled on the champagne and wine and roast pork spit kindly donated by member Joe Warren from Cooktown.
The Crocs kicked against a tricky breeze at the Croc Pit and registered 5 goals 8 at the quarter time break.
Josh Lea was showing his qualities on a wing with his best game back since his return and looks primed for a huge September. Brayden Mayne on the other wing has slotted into a great role and gets better each week with his running both ways.
Mitch Bohm relished the opportunity at full forward with some strong and telling marks in Kye Chapple’s absence with a back niggle.
If not for inaccuracy and giving a few off, Mitch could have easily had double figures next to his name but in a stand out effort ended with six goals.
The onballers were once again dominant with Pete Bury, Todd Shapter (three goals each) in and under everything and newcomer Zach Gubbins showing plenty of class and speed.
As dominant as the Crocs were they weren’t displaying scoreboard pressure and continued with the inaccurate kicking, to be 7.15 at half time.
The miserly defence of the back six of Declan Kelly, Wes Glass, Jordan Chapman, Gavin Jacks, Sam Scally and Oscar Dodge, with prevalent only conceding 1 goal for the match, and look to repel and setup inside 50s at the rate of up to 90 for the team.
Inaccuracy again was frustrating the Crocs in the third quarter kicking another 4.8 but they absolutely got it right in the last quarter blowing the Lions off the park with a 12 goal fourth quarter
Pleasing for the club is the top finish after the home and away, with the seniors having the bye this week – they will relish another contest against the South Cairns Cutters in a fortnight in the finals at Cazaly’s with a full list of fit players putting themselves forward.
Just a reminder to all – the Thursday night meals will be on next week with the seconds playing Pyramid down at Cazaly’s on Saturday and to get around and keep supporting the club as best you can.
