Mud­dies C shake off the cob­webs

THE As­tute Fi­nan­cial Mud­dies C grade team started their 2016-17 sea­son against an un­der­strength Unit­eds team teams at Grif­fiths 2 last week­end.

Los­ing the toss on a typ­i­cal Grif­fith 2 road, the Mud­dies were sent out to field.

Vet­eran Matt Shiesser opened the bowl­ing with rookie Nick Raynor.

Both started with some prob­ing de­liv­er­ies and put the open­ers un­der pres­sure early.

The United skip­per was dropped in sin­gle fig­ures and pun­ished the Mud­dies scor­ing a streaky 53, dropped four times in to­tal.

The in­tro­duc­tion of Ryan Doble saw early re­turn, 2 for 22 off 9 overs for the young quick.

First gamer Liam Cla­chety also had an in­stant im­pact tak­ing 1 for 8 off his 2 overs. It was the Wi­ley vet­eran, Schiesser who de­stroyed the Cairns team, re­turn­ing to form seen last decade, smash­ing through the home team to take 5 for 21 off his 8 overs.

The hosts post­ing a sub par 121, 50 runs more than they should have scored if not for the Mud­dies 8 dropped catches.

Ever­green Keith Tay­lor went out to face the last 40 min­utes of play with Raynor, both see­ing out the day with the ad­di­tion of eigh­teen runs.

The Mud­dies will be look­ing to bat out all of the day next week to se­cure the first in­nings points and al­low some in­valu­able time in the mid­dle for the bats­men.
