Muddies C shake off the cobwebs
THE Astute Financial Muddies C grade team started their 2016-17 season against an understrength Uniteds team teams at Griffiths 2 last weekend.
Losing the toss on a typical Griffith 2 road, the Muddies were sent out to field.
Veteran Matt Shiesser opened the bowling with rookie Nick Raynor.
Both started with some probing deliveries and put the openers under pressure early.
The United skipper was dropped in single figures and punished the Muddies scoring a streaky 53, dropped four times in total.
The introduction of Ryan Doble saw early return, 2 for 22 off 9 overs for the young quick.
First gamer Liam Clachety also had an instant impact taking 1 for 8 off his 2 overs. It was the Wiley veteran, Schiesser who destroyed the Cairns team, returning to form seen last decade, smashing through the home team to take 5 for 21 off his 8 overs.
The hosts posting a sub par 121, 50 runs more than they should have scored if not for the Muddies 8 dropped catches.
Evergreen Keith Taylor went out to face the last 40 minutes of play with Raynor, both seeing out the day with the addition of eighteen runs.
The Muddies will be looking to bat out all of the day next week to secure the first innings points and allow some invaluable time in the middle for the batsmen.
