World Cassowary Day
BEAUTIFUL weather and location at JCU’s remarkable Daintree Rainforest Observatory insured the day was well supported and enjoyed by 1000 people. Exhibitors from a range of NGO, community conservation groups and government departments participated and networked. Threatened Species Commissioner Gregory Andrews detailed the Federal Government’s aims and strategies to aid the recovery of threatened species, particularly the cassowary. A range of presentations were held in the conference hall highlighting the great work of cassowary researchers. Writer Bill Wilkie spoke about the Daintree Blockade. His book about the historic Blockade is due out in the next few months. As well as giving a brief history of the Blockade, Bill read some sections of his book.
