The lat­est vis­i­tor fig­ures from Tourism Re­search Aus­tralia con­firmed what we have been see­ing all year, that the Dou­glas Shire is in the midst of our best sea­son since 2007. The num­ber of do­mes­tic vis­i­tors to end of June rose 12% to 359,000 while in­ter­na­tional rose 5% to 97,000. The to­tal num­ber of room nights in Dou­glas also rose (+8%) with 2,439,000 re­ported for the year end­ing June. The av­er­age length of stay for do­mes­tic vis­i­tors recorded an in­crease reach­ing 5.3 while in­ter­na­tional dropped to 5.5, a re­sult of a de­cline in the num­ber of back­pack­ers vis­it­ing Queens­land. TPDD is work­ing on a num­ber of projects to stim­u­late de­mand in the com­ing shoul­der sea­son with the devel­op­ment of a Dain­tree com­pe­ti­tion, sched­uled blog posts and a co-op­er­a­tive ad­ver­tise­ment in Tiger Tales. info@tpdd.com.au no later than Fri­day 7th Oc­to­ber 2015. TPDD along with a num­ber of Dou­glas based op­er­a­tors will be rep­re­sent­ing the Dou­glas Re­gion at the Aus­tralian Tourism Ex­port Coun­cil’s an­nual In­bound Up North trade event which will be held in Cairns over 3 days. This event is now in its 17th year and de­liv­ers an in­for­ma­tive, ed­u­ca­tional, fun-filled few days of back to back work­shops with dis­trib­u­tors from around Aus­tralia. This event will bring over 100 del­e­gates to Trop­i­cal North Queens­land.
