19TH – 21ST OCTOBER – INBOUND UP NORTH
The latest visitor figures from Tourism Research Australia confirmed what we have been seeing all year, that the Douglas Shire is in the midst of our best season since 2007. The number of domestic visitors to end of June rose 12% to 359,000 while international rose 5% to 97,000. The total number of room nights in Douglas also rose (+8%) with 2,439,000 reported for the year ending June. The average length of stay for domestic visitors recorded an increase reaching 5.3 while international dropped to 5.5, a result of a decline in the number of backpackers visiting Queensland. TPDD is working on a number of projects to stimulate demand in the coming shoulder season with the development of a Daintree competition, scheduled blog posts and a co-operative advertisement in Tiger Tales. email@example.com no later than Friday 7th October 2015. TPDD along with a number of Douglas based operators will be representing the Douglas Region at the Australian Tourism Export Council’s annual Inbound Up North trade event which will be held in Cairns over 3 days. This event is now in its 17th year and delivers an informative, educational, fun-filled few days of back to back workshops with distributors from around Australia. This event will bring over 100 delegates to Tropical North Queensland.
