Muddies C’s debut win

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

THE Astute Financial Muddies C team got off to a solid start to the 2016/17 season with a comfortable win over Uniteds.

After restricting the hosts to 121 and compiling 18 runs the previous week, the Muddies had a deficit of 103 runs to chase and all 10 wickets in hand. Veteran Keith Taylor and rookie Nick Rayner continued on a lively Griffiths 2 pitch, developing a solid understanding on their way to getting the score to 57 before Rayner was dismissed, caught in two minds, caught out for a solid 21.

New-comer Alex Jenkins came out for his first knock for the Muddies and looked scratchy from the beginning after an extended period out of the game.

He compiled a typically C Grade standard 53 before being caught of a top edge, seemingly cementing his spot in the team.

Jenkins and Taylor (47) reached the total in the 48th over, securing first innings points for the Muddies. Both batsmen fell at 147 and wickets continued to fall regularly.

Ryan Doble, the only other batsman, to reach double figures, a worrying sign for the skipper. Overall the win was a great way to rack up some points and clean out the cobwebs, ready for a two-day game against Norths at the Mud Pit starting next weekend.
