Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

DOUGLAS Shire Councillors unanimously approved the Quicksilver development application on Warner St this week.

When the development goes ahead, the two storey building will include a purpose-built dive centre, a retail outlet and offices.

The site, on the corner of Warner and Grant St is wellknown for having flooding issues, which councillor Abigail Noli raised during questioning the approval. Author of the report Simon Clarke explained the development would not make flooding in the area worse because of conditions placed on the approval. He said Quicksilver acknowledged “there is the potential for their development to flood in an extreme event, and we’ve applied conditions to this approval which says they need to have a management plan to deal with flooding if it is to occur.”
