Christ­mas in the shire steps up with DTAG

MOSS­MAN’S free Christ­mas in the Park & Car­ols By Can­de­light cel­e­bra­tions will fea­ture X Fac­tor stars, face paint­ing, rides and en­ter­tain­ment as well as a daz­zling fire­works ex­trav­a­ganza.

Or­gan­is­ers the Dou­glas Theatre Arts Group have cre­ated an amaz­ing line-up of en­ter­tain­ment for the Christ­mas in the Park & Car­ols By Candlelight cel­e­bra­tions, which will be held at the Moss­man Show­grounds from 3pm on Satur­day, De­cem­ber 10.

Mayor Ju­lia Leu said she was de­lighted DTAG had stepped in to or­gan­ise such an im­por­tant com­mu­nity event, with Coun­cil con­tribut­ing $6000 as the ma­jor spon­sor.

“The Dou­glas Theatre Arts Group does such a fan­tas­tic job putting on amaz­ing per­for­mances for our com­mu­ni­ties and giv­ing lo­cals of all ages a way to ex­press them­selves cre­atively and I can’t wait to see what they have planned for us to cel­e­brate the fes­tive sea­son,” Mayor Leu said.

DTAG pres­i­dent and Dou­glas Shire coun­cil­lor Michael Kerr promised an en­ter­tain­ment ex­trav­a­ganza head­lined by X Fac­tors stars Geor­gia Den­ton and An­drew Law­son.

“We’ve also got per­for­mances planned from our won­derand ful Dou­glas Theatre Arts Group team as well as the Moss­man High School Band and other tal­ented lo­cal mu­si­cians,” Cr Kerr said.

“Sea FM’s Mark and Juanita will host the Car­ols By Candlelight even­ing, with the con­cert start­ing at 6.30pm and the fire­works dis­play from 9pm.

“We’re urg­ing every­one to come along early to en­joy the free Christ­mas in the Park cel­e­bra­tions from 3pm, which in­cludes a lolly drop at 4pm, heaps of chil­dren’s en­ter­tain­ment in­clud­ing face paint­ing and a jump­ing cas­tle and of course kids can get their photo taken with Santa.

“This is DTAG’s first year of or­gan­is­ing this event and we’re very ex­cited, there will also be mar­ket stalls with some great ideas for Christ­mas gifts and de­li­cious food on of­fer.

“We would re­ally like to thank Dou­glas Shire Coun­cil also the many lo­cal busi­nesses for their sup­port.”

Or­gan­is­ers are still keen to hear from any prospec­tive stall­hold­ers who may wish to par­tic­i­pate at no cost.

“Dou­glas Theatre Arts Group have done an ab­so­lutely amaz­ing job se­cur­ing a won­der­ful ar­ray of lo­cal and na­tional tal­ent as well as lo­cal spon­sors who are gen­er­ously sup­port­ing this ex­cit­ing event,” Mayor Leu said.

“In keep­ing with this fes­tive, com­mu­nity event, we would love to see a di­verse range of lo­cal stall­hold­ers too.”

No stall mar­ket fees will be charged for this event; how­ever do­na­tions to the Mayor’s Christ­mas Ap­peal will be greatly ap­pre­ci­ated.

Do­na­tions of $2 and over are tax de­ductible and all pro­ceeds go to­wards buy­ing gro­cery ham­pers for lo­cal fam­i­lies in need.
