Lo­cals line up for GBR race

THE Great Bar­rier Reef Marathon Fes­ti­val is on this week­end and is shap­ing up to be the largest run­ning fes­ti­val in Trop­i­cal North Queens­land.

The event not only at­tracts hun­dreds of in­ter­na­tional and in­ter­state vis­i­tors to the re­gion, but also cre­ates the per­fect event for lo­cals to get in­volved.

More than 150 lo­cals have signed up for the big event, in­clud­ing Jacky Cooke from Port Dou­glas Wed­dings and Gary Venz from Coral Sea Eye Care who will be tack­ling the gru­elling 74km Ul­tra Marathon.

Or­gan­is­ers say there’s some­thing for every­one on Novem­ber 6, with thou­sands of lo­cals vol­un­teer­ing their time.

There’s a free event for the kids, fundrais­ing, vol­un­teer­ing and more.
