The Meteors do well in Ma­reeba

FOR a small but grow­ing club, the mighty Meteors sure have their goals set high and are achiev­ing them one-by-one, com­pe­ti­tion-by-com­pe­ti­tion, in the pool. The ac­tion packed one-day Ma­reeba Spring Car­ni­val held on Satur­day 5th Novem­ber, saw the Meteors team of 12 swim­mers (from the Moss­man con­tin­gent) earn an im­pres­sive 19 Per­sonal Best times, 5 x 1st plac­ings, 5 x 2nd plac­ings, 6 x 3rd plac­ings and 4 x 4th plac­ings be­tween them.

With swim­mers rang­ing in age from 5yrs old to 15yrs old, we have some tal­ented lo­cal kids in the pool this swim sea­son.

In his pool com­pe­ti­tion swim­ming de­but, Mitchell Knight (15yrs) blitzed the pool in his four events earn­ing not only a 1st place in the 50m Free, 2nd place in both the 100m Free and 200m Free, and then a 3rd place in the 400m Free, but also swam his way into the FNQ De­vel­op­ment Squad with his im­pres­sive times!

Such an out­stand­ing achieve­ment Mitchell.

An­gus Reynolds (11yrs) com­peted in 8 events and achieved 3 new PB’s in the 200m IM, 50m Fly and 100m Back­stroke while also re­ceiv­ing 1st place in both the 50m Fly and 100m Breast­stroke, 2nd place in the 100m Back and 50m Back and 3rd place in the 50m Breast­stroke.

So­phie Knight (12yrs) in her first comp this sea­son, com­peted in 5 events gain­ing a 3rd plac­ing for 50m Free and 4th plac­ings in both the 50m Breast and 50m Back­stroke.

Mar­lon Bellero (9yrs) swam in 4 events, gain­ing places in 3 of them, 1st 50m Fly and 3rd 50m Breast & 50m Free and also achieved two new PB’s for his awe­some ef­forts.

Au­drey Gaske (9yrs) com­peted in 4 events and gained a 2nd place rib­bon in the 50m Breast, also achiev­ing two new PB’s in both the 50m Fly and 50m Breast­stroke.

Tas­myn Clu­nie (7yrs) swim­ming in the 8yrs and un­der sec­tion gained a new PB for the 25m Back, plac­ing 2nd in this event and also placed 4th in the 25m Freestyle.

Heath Dun­can (13yrs) gained times in two new events for him, the 50m Fly and 50m Back plac­ing 3rd in the Back­stroke event and also took vi­tal sec­onds of his PB’s in the 50m Free and 50m Breast­stroke which earned him a 1st place in this event.

Grace Jones (11yrs) com­peted in a new event this comp, gain­ing a time in the 100m Free and also achiev­ing a new PB in the 50m Back­stroke.

Au­gust Gaske (11yrs) smashed his old PB’s in 5 events this comp, most im­pres­sive were the 200m In­di­vid­ual Med­ley by a whop­ping 17.54secs, the 50m Fly by 12.13secs (also plac­ing 4th in this event) and the 100m Back by 15.61secs! He also achieved new PB’s in the 100m Free and 50m Breast.

Tom Gall (10yrs) com­pet­ing in his first comp of the sea­son gain­ing two new PB’s in the 50m Breast and 50m Free and swam two new events gain­ing times in both the 100m Breast and 100m Freestyle.

Com­pe­ti­tion first timers, Cooper Jones (5yrs) and Bob Gall (8yrs) both swam in the 8yrs & un­der Boys 25m Freestyle gain­ing times and PB’s to place 12th and 15th re­spec­tively. Great work lit­tle Ju­nior Dol­phins!

With such an awe­some list of achieve­ments from a small group of swim­mers, it’s any won­der that Meteors mem­ber­ship num­bers are grow­ing by the week as word of their awe­some coaches spreads around the shire!

The next swim comp for the sea­son will be the Saints Long Course Qual­i­fier held at the To­bruk Pool 19/20th Novem­ber.
