Port kids’ Book Month kicks off novel fundraising
I Love My Library book month has drawn to a close, and to see it out Port Douglas State School children dressed up as their favourite book characters.
The kids participated in a sing along and enjoyed a parade before awards for the best dressed character were handed out.
Meanwhile, the book drive to replace much of the worn out stock in the library continues.
Jenny Edmondson has volunteered to take up the challenge, and has found a novel way to source new books.
Ms Edmondson, a school parent, has been emailing out book lists and various individuals have responded with amounts equal to each book.
“Right now we’ve got enough for more than 100 books but it would be even better if we could get a few more,” Ms Edmondson says.
The student Read-a-Thon also raised more than $550.
The teachers have been helping to generate the book lists.
The targets are mostly current fiction, for ages 6-12
“I’ve still got a lot of lists that I need sponsors for,” Ms Edmondson said.
Some of the books will be bought locally where possible.
People willing to help are asked to cally Jenny on 0417 208 864.
