Bowlers stitch it for Muddies Under 14s
THE Douglas Muddies Under 14 team hosted the highly fancied Cairns North at the Croc pit over the last two weeks and got the points due to a fine bowling effort.
Captain Luke won the toss and sent Norths in.
It proved a good decision as all the boys bowled well and backed up in the field with six catches and a run out to see Norths 10/72 after their first 32 overs.
Charlie was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for 9 runs and Abel produced his best spell of the season, mesmerising the batsmen with one maiden over and finishing with two wickets for 4 runs.
Ashton also bowled great in both innings and beat the bat often.
Norths took to the field and tight bowling put the Muddies under pressure throughout their innings.
Runs were hard to find and the boys did well to scramble to 10/110 after their 32 overs.
Day 2 saw both teams finish of the opposing tail and the Muddies earned first innings points by having Norths all out for 86 and getting their own total to 125.
With the second innings reduced to 21 overs both teams were after a percentage boost and Norths played well to finish on 1/82 with the sole wicket a great runout by Brennan off Abel’s bowling.
After Charlie, Scottie and Brennan batted well to get the score past Norths’ total Jake was given free rein to play his shots and found himself at the bowlers end on 49 with only two balls left in the match.
Team player Daniel took on the field in a suicidal single to give Jake the strike for the last ball and he managed to get bat on ball for a well deserved 50 off only 32 balls and give the team a percentage boosting 3/107.
