DECENT summer rains are likely to be more than two weeks away, with the Bureau of Meteorology’s Weekly Tropical Climate Note showing little activity around Northern Australia. The Madden–Julian Oscillation, an eastward moving ‘pulse’ of cloud and rainfall near the equator that typically recurs every 30 to 60 days, is unlikely to impact Australia in the coming weeks. Meantime, the Indian Ocean Dipole and the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) are neutral.
