’There are more crocs this year’

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS - Shane Nichols

YACHTIE Mark Hemingson has been around Dickson Inlet for years, on and off, and says he has never seen so many crocodiles as he has lately.

On Friday he was motoring in his tinnie down the Inlet to the public pontoon when he almost ran over a 3m croc. “I thought it was a log.” He said he has seen people dangling their feet in the water around places like the pontoon.

“This year I’ve seen more crocs than at any other time, and I don’t know why,” he said.

“There seems to be a huge influx of them.

“I’ve been back in Port about six months and I’ve seen so many.”
