COOK SHIRE ANT WORRY

Cook Shire Coun­cil’s biose­cu­rity team will col­lect sam­ples for iden­ti­fi­ca­tion af­ter a Cook­town res­i­dent raised con­cerns about a sus­pected Sin­ga­pore ant out­break. The in­va­sive ant, which builds large colonies and can dam­age fab­ric, plas­tic, elec­tri­cal wire and rub­ber ma­te­ri­als with its chew­ing, has been iden­ti­fied in Wu­jal Wu­jal and the Table­lands, but there have been no con­firmed sight­ings in Cook­town.
