Giant ray landed at Seisia

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

A GIANT stingray reportedly hooked off the coast of Cape York is the latest in a long list of monsters to have been landed in the remote region.

Posting the image to the Cairns and FNQ Fishing Facebook group, angler Jay Gebadi said he’d caught the creature on a hand reel at Seisia, about 25km south west of the Cape York tip.

Seisia Holiday Park manager Jules Farley said the waters off the tiny town’s wharf were known to harbour giant sea creatures.

“There are huge groupers, lemon sharks ... any tourist has probably been snapped off by something. Lots of fishing rods get lost off there,” she said.
