Muddies out play Atherton
DAY Two of the Astute Financial Muddies Under 16 clash with Atherton saw the Muddies continue their stellar form of the previous week.
First innings points went to the home team, with Atherton all out for 171 defeated by the Astute Financial Muddies 7/230.
Long term arch-rivals Atherton resumed the match on 7/111 and the Muddies were keen for quick wickets.
The Atherton tail had other ideas however, hanging on for another 23 overs. Opening bowlers Ryan Doble and Reuben Allison toiled hard and collected figures of 1/32 and 0/10 respectively.
Curtis White and Liam Clacherty also added to their day 1 figures to finish with 0/12 and 0/17.
Nathan Deuble was unlucky not to add to his day 1 wicket tally but finished with an impressive 2/14 from seven overs.
Vincent Killeen and Tom Harvey also found Day Two hard work finishing with 3/28 and 0/26 respectively.
Nick Rayner was the exception to the rule on day two with a blistering spell of 3/4 which saw him finish with the outstanding figures of 4/9 from eight overs. Tom Walker was the other successful Day Two bowler taking 1/14 from his three overs.
With outright points seemingly off the table, the Muddies needed just 48 runs for a first innings victory.
Resuming where they left off, the day 1 not out partnership of Curtis White and Vincent Killeen made a steady start.
Curtis was unlucky to fall victim to a dubious bowling action, bowled for 11 from 50 balls faced.
The loss of Curtis’s wicket bought vice captain Ryan Doble to the crease where he formed a 35-run partnership with Vincent before being caught behind for 21 from 42 balls.
When Vincent fell for 43 from 91, and Tex McDowall fell without troubling the scorers, it was left up to Nick Rayner and Tom Harvey to hit the winning runs.
With Nick playing the attacking role, Tom Harvey was solid in support to finish not out on 10 from 27.
Nick’s aggressive innings saw him blast his way to an unbeaten 49 from 50 to seal the Muddies first innings win.
Next week will see the Astute Financial Muddies Under 16s take on ladder leaders Norths in their first one day match of the season.
Being the last match before the Christmas break it’s the ideal chance to get down to the Mudpit and support the future stars of the club.
