Wanted: an ap­pren­tice for nurs­ing home build

BUILDERS Field Con­struct, which have been awarded a con­tract for ini­tial work on the Moss­man Aged Care fa­cil­ity, are look­ing to hire a new ap­pren­tice.

Founder and di­rec­tor Richard Field told the he was proud his com­pany had been awarded the Early Con­trac­tor In­volve­ment con­tract, which be­comes the Con­struc­tion Man­age­ment con­tract once work be­gins on-site.

“We’re re­ally ex­cited about the op­por­tu­nity of returning to Moss­man to another project,” said Mr Field.

Richard Field and Field Con­struct have been in­volved in a num­ber of projects around Port Dou­glas – Mr Field was project man­ager for the Port Vil­lage Shop­ping Cen­tre and the IGA shop­ping cen­tre, and has worked on many other projects around the Shire.

They are de­sign­ing the new fa­cil­ity and work­ing to­wards the pro­jected start of con­struc­tion closer to Easter 2017.

“We’re bring­ing our smarts to the project to ben­e­fit the com­mu­nity and Sal­va­tion Army by guid­ing the de­sign team through build­abil­ity is­sues we know from ex­pe­ri­ence as con­struc­tors.”

They are search­ing for lo­cal ap­pren­tices to work on the site – in­clud­ing a new en­trant.

“The ap­pren­tice would be in­ter­ested in a ca­reer in com­mer­cial car­pen­try, and have wanted that for some time.

“We just want some­one that’s got a pas­sion, got an in­ter­est in be­ing an ap­pren­tice.

“We’d like to en­cour­age in­dige­nous ap­pli­cants, both male and fe­male.”

Re­quire­ments for ap­pli­cants in­clude com­plet­ing year 12, hav­ing rea­son­able grades, aged be­tween 17 and 19 in­clu­sive, and have a driver’s li­cence and their own ve­hi­cle.
