Falcons take the T20 title

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

THE Four Mile Falcons have won the fourth season of the Muddies T20 Big Bash with a comfortable win over the B Team.

The Falcons were red hot favourites to take out the grand final after strolling through the season undefeated but the B Team had finished the season with a flurry and were worthy opponents of the minor premiers.

The Falcons batted first with all making a contribution with Young (16) and Mawson (22) adding valuable runs to standouts Pete Bury 32no and Max Petrack 31 who pushed the Falcons to a very competitive 149.

Mick Bruin was the standout bowler for the B Team taking an impressive 3 for 12 off his two overs.

The B Team needed to ensure that they didn’t get bogged down early in their innings to keep the run rate in check but the Falcons bowlers gave no free deliveries and kept openers Mark Barnes(16) and Ben Shrimpton tied down, Shrimpton making a run-a-ball 31no to place pressure on the Falcons.

The Falcons continued to bowl well through the innings, Travis Gooch(27) and Mick Buin(15), adding some respectability to the B Team score, finishing at 3 for 105 in a disappointing chase. Weary Vettori was the pick of the Falcons bowlers taking 1 for 3 off his 2 overs.

The T20 comp was another great success with 7 teams taking part this season.

The Muddies Cricket Club would like to thank all the players and volunteers for their contribution throughout the 2016 season and hope to see everyone running around the park next year.
