No money for Ulysses

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

FUNDING for Ulysses butterflies has been denied.

The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary has been seeking financial assistance from the government to research why populations are declining in captivity and in the wild.

“There is presently no funding available from the department for which, on initial review, your proposed research project would be considered eligible,” said DEHP directorgeneral Jim Reeves in a letter to the sanctuary.

CaPTA Group chairman Charles Woodward said the government’s response was disappointing, considering current research and media surrounding other species in the area and their continued survival.
