Four Mile makes the cut in best beaches
WITH the 101 Best Australian Beaches listed recently, Port Douglas operators can breath a sigh of relief with Four Mile beach making the cut.
The man tasked with compiling the list, Brad Farmer told the in September that Four Mile was ‘up for review’ because it was so well-known and perhaps not in need of any publicity.
“Four Mile stays on the beach because it remains an iconic destination for the wellheeled,” Mr Farmer told the
recently. He listed the generous foreshore and ‘sensibly developed’ surrounding urban landscape as marks in its favour, but foreshadowed more strenuous analysis in future reviews.
“The images are very attractive, but it comes with a price.”
Mr Farmer said Four Mile would be “more critically reviewed for a general travelling audience” in the future, and added that well-known, iconic beaches were not immune to removal from the list - with Surfers Paradise listed as a high-profile casualty of this years update.
For now though, “Port Douglas is an outstanding Australian destination,” said Mr Farmer.
Four Mile beach is joined by Myall Beach, Ellis Beach and Nudey Beach in the immediate region. The overall winner for best beach in Australia was Cossies Beach in the Cocos Islands.
