YEAR 7 Student Angelo Puglisi has been awarded the 2016 Mossman State High School Peace Award.

The award, which recognises courage and excellent in promoting peace in the community, is given out every year.

The winner is given $300 to donate to a local not-for-profit organisation, and Angelo has decided to donate the money to the Leukaemia Foundation.

“I had two friends that were like little brothers and they lost their grandfather,” said Angelo.

Evidence of motivating others, advocating for peace and harmony, an ability to build bridges towards solving conflict and have a good reputation are the criteria for the peace award, which in 2016 was sponsored by the Mossman Port Douglas Anglican Church.

One teacher that nominated Angelo for the award described him as a kind, mature and friendly student.

“He goes about his school life with dignity and respect,” they said.
