New Mossman store has heart

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - BUSINESS - Scott Tibballs

MOSSMAN has a new storefront brightening up Front St, with women’s fashion store Bamboo Heart open for business.

Owner and manager Deb Pearce says her store offers women’s clothing ideal for the tropics.

“I believe in the material – I try to keep away from polyester and nylon. Breathable fabrics like cotton, rayon and linen are essential to our comfort.”

Offering women’s fashion for those aged between 20 and 50, Ms Pearce said she thought it was important to fill a niche in Mossman with products that are fashionable, sensible for the climate and affordable too.

“I’ve tried to create some- thing a little different – somewhere people can come in and have a chat and feel comfortable.”

She sources her stock from Sydney and Brisbane, and despite having no previous experience in retail said “it’s a lot of fun and a great learning curve”.

She has a long work history of varied and interesting purMACROSSAN suits.

“The type of work since I’ve left school is everything from secretarial and administrative to being a fulltime musician to being a governess on a station.

“I’ve done a lot of different stuff and I’m hoping to draw all of that into making Bamboo Heart a success.

“I do love a challenge – everything I do I pursue vigorously.

“To me the shop is not just about filling a niche that needed to be filled. It’s a new start for me in my life.”

She is certainly enjoying her new job, saying that the Mossman community have been very welcoming. “I’ve had a lot of people come in and investigate.

“I’m hoping over time to build this into a place they can rely on to fulfil their needs.”

10-year Daintree resident Deb Pearce has opened a new women's fashion store on Front St.
