Meteors in the swim
A small but enthusiastic contingent of seven swimmers from the Meteors travelled to Malanda for the Malanda Dragons Tropical Christmas short-course meet.
The last regional swim meet for 2016, it was a well attended and relaxed competition with swimmers coming from clubs throughout the FNQ region.
Representing the Meteors on Saturday and cheering each other on, were Tom and Bob Gall, Audrey and August Gaske, Grace and Cooper Jones and Emily Donoghue. Swimmers: August Gaske (11yrs) competed in eight events over the day with some great results! Gus placed 2nd in the 50m Free,3rd 50m Breast, 4th 50m Back plus set himself new PBs in all these and his 100m Free event. Competing in the 100m Back he placed 3rd and took a huge 13.86secs off his existing PB and also shaved 10.36secs off his 100m Breaststroke time.
Emily Donoghue (12yrs) competing in only her 2nd swim meet, swam in three events, gaining new PBs in the 50m Free and 50m Breast and placing 4th in a new event for her, the 50m Backstroke.
Tom Gall (11yrs) swam set new PBs in four events. He took a massive 14.76secs off his 50m Free, 11.85secs off in the 50m Fly and over 5secs off in both the 50m Breast and 50m Back events.
Grace Jones (11yrs) competed in four events placing in the top seven for her age in the 50m Fly, 50m Breast and 50m Free. Grace also competed in a new event for her, the 100m Individual Medley.
Audrey Gaske (10yrs) swam in 8 events winning ribbons for 1st place in the 100m Back with a huge 16.41secs off her PB and also 1st place 100m Free with a 9.94sec PB. Audrey also placed 3rd 100m Breast beating her PB by 14.53secs and set herself a new PB in the 50m Free and 100m Individual Medley.
Bob Gall (8yrs) placed 2nd in the 8yrs and under 25m Breaststroke which was a new event for him, and 4th in the 25m Freestyle.
Cooper Jones (5yrs) swam a new PB in the 7yrs and under 25m Free event placing 2nd, and in a new event for him, placed first in the 25m Backstroke!
