Me­te­ors in the swim

A small but en­thu­si­as­tic con­tin­gent of seven swim­mers from the Me­te­ors trav­elled to Ma­landa for the Ma­landa Dragons Trop­i­cal Christ­mas short-course meet.

The last re­gional swim meet for 2016, it was a well at­tended and re­laxed com­pe­ti­tion with swim­mers com­ing from clubs through­out the FNQ re­gion.

Rep­re­sent­ing the Me­te­ors on Satur­day and cheer­ing each other on, were Tom and Bob Gall, Au­drey and Au­gust Gaske, Grace and Cooper Jones and Emily Donoghue. Swim­mers: Au­gust Gaske (11yrs) com­peted in eight events over the day with some great re­sults! Gus placed 2nd in the 50m Free,3rd 50m Breast, 4th 50m Back plus set him­self new PBs in all these and his 100m Free event. Com­pet­ing in the 100m Back he placed 3rd and took a huge 13.86secs off his ex­ist­ing PB and also shaved 10.36secs off his 100m Breast­stroke time.

Emily Donoghue (12yrs) com­pet­ing in only her 2nd swim meet, swam in three events, gain­ing new PBs in the 50m Free and 50m Breast and plac­ing 4th in a new event for her, the 50m Back­stroke.

Tom Gall (11yrs) swam set new PBs in four events. He took a mas­sive 14.76secs off his 50m Free, 11.85secs off in the 50m Fly and over 5secs off in both the 50m Breast and 50m Back events.

Grace Jones (11yrs) com­peted in four events plac­ing in the top seven for her age in the 50m Fly, 50m Breast and 50m Free. Grace also com­peted in a new event for her, the 100m In­di­vid­ual Med­ley.

Au­drey Gaske (10yrs) swam in 8 events win­ning rib­bons for 1st place in the 100m Back with a huge 16.41secs off her PB and also 1st place 100m Free with a 9.94sec PB. Au­drey also placed 3rd 100m Breast beat­ing her PB by 14.53secs and set her­self a new PB in the 50m Free and 100m In­di­vid­ual Med­ley.

Bob Gall (8yrs) placed 2nd in the 8yrs and un­der 25m Breast­stroke which was a new event for him, and 4th in the 25m Freestyle.

Cooper Jones (5yrs) swam a new PB in the 7yrs and un­der 25m Free event plac­ing 2nd, and in a new event for him, placed first in the 25m Back­stroke!
