Port locals dig deep for presents for kids

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - OPINION -

Recent visits to the delightful Choo Choos Cafe at St Crispin’s prompted an idea to assemble a group of local friends and residents for a little Christmas gathering.

Late on a Saturday afternoon just, before Christmas, three dozen local friends met at the Bally Hooley station to celebrate the Christmas Season and watch the sun go down across the Gorge.

Everyone brought a small wrapped present for a local child who might miss out on a part of Christmas most of us take for granted. As the presents piled up under the little tree before our eyes, so did the smiles of the guests broaden at the thought of ensuring a few Port Douglas kids, whom they do not know, receive some extra joy on Christmas Day!

The gifts were delivered to our Community Centre bringing more smiles to the three happy ladies who will pass them on.

Rick, the chef and his splendid young team staged a memorable buffet featuring some of the most brilliantly produced oysters and crumbed prawns for our arrival, delighting us with little stuffed mushrooms, sashimi and an absolutely marvellous ceviche as we chatted and sipped away the afternoon, before ruining any dinner plans some brave people may have entertained by putting on a huge aromatic cooked ham with little heated rolls and condiments on the side.
