Muddies on a Mission

C Grade merry with a win to consolidate placing

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

THE local Astute Financial Muddies C Grade started their “rest of season” away games by travelling to Cairns last Sunday to take on Mission Beach in a 30 over a side one day match.

Skipper Steve Doble lost the toss and after the deliberation of Mission having insufficient players to take the field, Muddies were sent to bowl.

Mission seemed to forget it was a one day match, blocking their way to 3/22 at the mid way 15 over point.

Young Ryan Doble bowled with heat and Liam Clacherty kept it tight at the other end to start the innings but it was Dan Redfern who tore the opposition apart with 6 overs 4/8 including two “bowled” and a sharp stumping by Alex Jenkins.

Ritesh Kumar also managed 2 wickets partly due to some wise field placements more so than the guile of his bowling, Ryan taking two sharp chances above head height.

Mission set a measly score of 39 runs and with Nathan Dueble stepping up for his first senior game, paired with Damian Darlington, the Muddies commenced the short chase – even shorter when Nath unluckily managed a bottom edge to the keeper without troubling the scorers.

Darlington’s timing still eluded him but he managed more than half the runs himself and the Muddies passed the total set in the 10th over to win.

Merry Christmas to all while the Astute Financial Muddies break to return January 15 and build on their second place position ahead of the two day finals in March.
