Former local man eyes the universe
FOR former Port Douglas local James Carne, acting and modelling is the name of the game.
The 21-year-old, who spent the first ten years of his life living in Port Douglas will be competing at the 11th Mister International Competition in Bangkok next month.
Mr Carne will be up against heart-throbs from all over the world, in the male equivalent of Miss Universe.
He’s humble about his chances, telling the Gazette he’s in it to make friends and learn about modelling and acting.
“I think I’ll do all right. I’m not very competitive, so I’ll enjoy it either way. If I lose, I’ll still have a great time, but I think the guys I’m up against are on an international level. So if you’re really after the first prize you’ve got to keep your eye out there because its going to be hard.”
According to Mr Carne competing in Mr International will help his modestly successgo ful acting career further along. One year out of studying acting he’s achieved roles in advertisements and is hoping for more.
“Once you get publicity with (Mr International) there is usually work in Thailand and overseas, and you usually do get picked up to do a bit of commercial work and modelling and stuff like that. Plus, it’ll be fun.”
While Mr Carne has called Melbourne home for a year now, and has been away from Port Douglas for 10 years, he still takes the time to drop by.
“I try to come back to Port Douglas as much as I can – my sister still lives in Mossman, so whenever I’m there we usually to Port Douglas. I always try to come for the Port Douglas Carnivale. Whenever I’m there and I walk the streets I usually always see someone from my childhood.”
Mister International will be held at Asiatique the Riverfront on February 13 and the webcast can be viewed at misterinternational.net
