Lighting strikes father and son

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

TWO Lower Daintree residents are lucky to be alive after being struck by lightning on Saturday January 7 at about 7pm.

A man, aged 42, and his son aged 12 were outside working on a generator when they witnessed a lightning strike hit a power pole nearby. The surge reached the generator they were both in contact with and they were thrown backwards by the shock.

Both father and son were checked for arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) by paramedics that responded and found to be okay. Both were transported to the Mossman Hospital.

The man suffered burns to his arm while his son only reported a tingling sensation in his arm and was otherwise unhurt.
