Waifs mark 25 yrs with Cairns show

LONG-RUN­NING Aus­tralian out­fit The Waifs are com­ing to Cairns as part of cel­e­bra­tions mark­ing 25 years as a band.

The multi-award win­ning group be­hind songs like Light­house will take over Munro Martin Park­lands on April 9 for a con­cert un­der the stars. The performance forms part of a larger na­tional tour.

In a mes­sage to fans, The Waifs’ Vikki Thorn praised the out­fit’s fans.

“It feels like we all grew up to­gether. We are now the band you can brings your par­ents and your kids to hear,” she said.

“Your in­volve­ment in our ca­reer means ev­ery­thing to us. You are the very rea­son we are still play­ing mu­sic to­gether 25 years on.”

Not only are they still play­ing to­gether – The Waifs are still mak­ing mu­sic to­gether. They will re­lease their new dou­ble al­bum Iron­bark in March. It fea­tures 14 tracks plus 11 bonus tracks for a to­tal of 25 songs for 25 years.

The band have also launched a spe­cial ini­tia­tive that lets fans down­load free bonus songs from The Waifs web­site in the week’s lead­ing to the al­bum’s re­lease on March 3.

Tick­ets to their Cairns show will go on sale to­mor­row (Jan­uary 13) at 9am from tick­etLiNK.
