HUGE GREAT WHITE
A 4.5m great white shark was caught 500m from shore near Evans Head on the NSW north coast on Tuesday, tagged and released 1km from the shore at the popular holiday destination. The shark is one of the largest seen in the area since a 5m great white was spotted in February last year. The world’s largest known great white is 6m long. Evans Head is one of the northern beaches off which the government has installed shark nets on a six-month trial. It was reported this week that swimmers at Sydney beaches, long protected by shark meshing, were being put at risk by so-called eco-warriors destroying the protective barriers.
