THE B Grade Douglas Muddies won their first game of 2017 finishing a two-dayer against Mulgrave Toads at Fuller Park Edmonton.
Day one: Captain Courageous won the toss and on a wet and spicy pitch elected to bowl with openers Kaiden (Skippy) Sorensen and Michael (Schulzy) Schulz.
Kaiden picked up the first wicketwith the first ball of the game, followed by his second wicket with a great catch from Sam (Big show) Evans, showing off how good he can dab.
The opening bowlers finished their spell tying down Mulgrave on 3/16. First change bowlersHayden (Haydos ) D’Addona and Keel (1000 grams) Sorensen continued to put pressure on the toads’ batsmen as they continued to fall like flies.
With some great fielding by the Muddies, Mulgrave were all out for 55. Wicket takers for Muddies were Kaiden 4/10; Keel 3/27; Hayden 2/7.
It was time for the Muddies to show their batting expertise with openers Ethan (captain) McCullough and Jared Stewart who did a good job seeing out the new ball and opposition opening bowlers before both batsmen fell before they could reach double figures.
But it was Travis Gooch and Haydos who succeeded in showing the southern opposition what they could do.
With both batsmen finding the gaps, putting runs on the board with a great partnership of 95 before Travis lost his wicket on 51 with this being his first 50 for the muddies. With the day finishing, the Muddies were on 3/116.
Day two: The Muddies returned to Fuller Park to finish what they started, with Hayden D’Addona not out on 42 and having Simon (Custard arm) Cody coming to the crease both batsmen found easy runs and started to put pressure on the bowlers before Simon was caught for 13. Gary Postans soon followed out for 8 and Hayden top scored on 54.
But it was Bigshow (18no) and Skippy who finished off the inning with Muddies declaring 6/169.
Muddies put Mulgrave back into bat hoping for an outright, but the weather was not on the Muddies side.
Openers Michael and Kaiden who from ball one put pressure on the Mulgrave batsmen took a wicket each in their second overs and Schulzy taking a further two with catches from Cody and McCullough.
Schulz resulted with 3/7 off 5 and Kaiden 1/18 off 5. Haydos 1/3 off 3 and Keelo continued bowling but rain washed out the day saving Mulgrave 5/38 from the onslaught.
