Stolen flags returned

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

FLAGS stolen from the Yungaburra Avenue of Honour have been returned anonymously.

Thieves took the Australian and Queensland flags from the memorial site on January 12 with Avenue committee members furious over the incident. However, they issued an open letter offering to take no further action if they were returned.

The flags were found in a plastic bag on the steps in front of the Yungaburra Post Office.

Avenue vice president Rod Marti said they would not take further action. “It’s absolutely fantastic (they’re back),” he said. “I don’t want to thank them because they shouldn’t have done it in the first place. But it’s a relief that we’ve got them back.”
