SALES ARE UP
I have just returned from an extremely positive Europe and UK roadshow where I joined 22 operators and regions from around Queensland to drive sales and promotion of our region. The overwhelming impression from the trip was that our region receives an enormous amount of support from the travel industry in key markets such as Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, United Kingdom and Scandinavia. The representatives I met with have incredibly detailed knowledge of our region, the appropriate products for their market as well as our key selling points. Market intel indicated sales are up and that Tropical North Queensland receives the bulk of holiday makers who visit Queensland. January and February are key selling months for the western hemisphere, making the trip timely to put Queensland front of mind to staff selling long haul travel. Key competitor markets at present are Canada and South Africa with the cost of travel in Australia continuing to be the biggest obstacle. TPDD has been running a campaign to increase awareness of Daintree travel and the regional opportunity the Douglas Card, which gives TNQ residents free ferry travel through to 28th February, provides to the local drive market. In addition, last weekend saw six representatives from the Port Douglas Wedding Professionals head to Melbourne for the Wedding Expo pushing the Douglas region for destination weddings and honeymoons. Next month TPDD will represent Tropical North Queensland at the Melbourne Travel Expo as well as have representation at the Melbourne Caravan and Camping Show. forming a mutually beneficial relationship to showcase hero experiences, locals and drive visitation within Queensland. We know that editorial and commercial messages combined create a powerful platform to inspire and inform Queenslanders, therefore the upcoming state wide custom magazine will be strategically used to spark inspiration by integrating editorial and advertising messaging relevant to our audiences and their path to purchase.
