Couper Smith 3rd in Sydney

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

MOSSMAN pint sized junior golfer Couper Smith has put in another outstanding performance at the US Kids Australian Junior Golf Championships at Moore Park Golf Course in Sydney last week coming third place in the Under 10 boys division.

The first round saw Couper four shots off the place, in a tight group behind the eventual winner from the United States with a round of 78.

He then fired a second round score of 79 in heavy rain and windy conditions to fend off a number of the country’s best young golf stars including the South African Under 10 champion to come in third place.

The highlight of the tournament was scoring two eagles on the same hole on consecutive days. Couper will now have the agonising wait to see if he receives an invitation to compete in the World US Kids championships at Pinehurst in North Carolina, US, the home of US golf.
