Confident Muddies B eye the cup
THE B Grade Astute Financial Douglas Muddies played another successful match in their second game of the year at the Mudpit in a one dayer against the Rovers Green Caps.
It was a hot and sweaty day at the Mudpit, with groundskeeper Keithy Taylor producing another great pitch for the B grade Muddies and the return of Pete (Happy) Gilmour, Randal Smith, Adam (Bobby) Lucas and a new player KB.
With captain Ethan McCullough losing the toss Muddies were sent into bat with Ethan and Jared Stewart opening. It didn’t look good for the Muddies when both batsmen fell in the first 3 overs 2/9.
But it was the Kiwi bros Simon Cody and Travis Gooch who produced the goods with both batsmen putting runs on the board with an important partnership of 61 before Simon lost his wicket, bowled, on 35.
With Randal returning, both he and Travis continued to show the batting expertise with easy runs and the help from Rovers with some bad fielding/catching before Randal was caught for 19. Gary (Buckets) Postans and Gooch continued the great batting performance before Travis unlucky to be called LBW two runs short of another 50.
This brought Pete to the crease.
He looked like he was playing a big bash, not quite as good as Chris Lynn, but making 34 off 12 balls with 4 sixes.
Gary (12) and KB (5no) finished off the innings with some good hits and Muddies completing their 35 overs with a great team effort of 7/179.
Muddies opening bowlers Kaiden (Skippy) Sorensen and Pete bowled well before both bowlers picked up a wicket each in their second overs, assisted by catches from KB and Buckets. The heat was getting to the bowlers so captain Ethan opted to give them a spell which brought on first change bowlers.
Michael Klein-Boonschate (KB) who picked up his first smashing wicket clean bowling one of Rovers rep players with the first ball of his spell and Keel (1000 grams) Sorensen who finished his spell with 2 wickets, one with a great catch by Randal and the other a well earned stumping by Stewart.
Randal also bowled four overs, achieving a wicket with another quick stumping by Stewart. It was the return of the opening bowlers who finished off the Rovers’ batsmen and with a run out by Bobby.
The Muddies had Rovers all out for 78.
Wicket takers for Muddies were Pete 3/10; Kaiden 2/14; Keel 2/27; KB 1/7 and Randal 1/17.
Next week B grade Muddies go up against Norths in a 1 dayer at the Mudpit. Muddies are keen to remain at the top of the 1 Day ladder with the One Day Final to be held on February 5.
