Definitely different to Victoria . . .

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT - Gary McNamara

I fish nearly every weekend back in Victoria – coast, in the high country, rivers . . .

My best fish was here actually, last year, black tip shark. Two of them.

It was January, and the first time we’d been to Port Douglas. I had a look around and saw this jetty and came back with the rods.

I started fishing around 11 am. It was sweltering hot. I had lots of bites and nibbles, nothing much, just crabs and stuff that steal your bait.

Around 1 pm I got this bite. I’d never hooked anything like that in Victoria. I didn’t know what I had until I got it up near the top. I’d never caught anything up here before. It gave a good fight . I was using a 30-40 kg line and it took about five minutes to get it back in. i got it up onto the steps and I unhooked it and took a photo. It was about 4 ft long. then I let it go. About half an hour later I got an identical one -- maybe the same one, who knows!
