As our elected mem­ber of par­lia­ment, you are meant to pro­tect the eco­nomic well­be­ing and fu­ture of your con­stituents– not dec­i­mate it which your very words and ac­tions (or rather lack of them) are in dan­ger of do­ing.

Whilst Port Dou­glas is only a small part of your con­stituency, it’s tourism gen­er­ates sig­nif­i­cant revenue and ben­e­fits for the en­tire re­gion and if you truly be­lieve that this revenue and as­so­ci­ated liveli­hoods can be sus­tained with­out pro­vid­ing a “clas­sic beach hol­i­day” ex­pe­ri­ence then you clearly do not un­der­stand the re­al­ity of our tourism.

Most, if not all, of our tourist profit is gen­er­at­ing from June to Oc­to­ber when the town fills with folks from down south and from New Zealand. These visi­tors are our “bread and but­ter” and the “bedrock” of our tourism. These visi­tors, come here to here to rest and re­lax and for the vast ma­jor­ity of them the clas­sic beach hol­i­day ex­pe­ri­ence is an es­sen­tial com­po­nent for
